I surprised myself last month. Most certainly it was brought on by the fact that I haven't been engaging in much retail therapy and spending a lot of time looking at stuff online, but I enrolled in a monthly subscription service. You won't believe what it is. Guess.
Books? No.
Stuff for the dog? Not yet.
Food? Nope.
It's cosmetics. I know, right? Who am I?
The service is called Ipsy. I'm not exactly sure where I saw it, but probably Facebook. For some reason, it totally appealed to me. I got my first bag in September. It contained pretty eye shadow in brown shades, awesome mascara, an under eye cream, a facial cleanser by a company I'd heard of, and a contouring brush. I got my second bag today. It had eye shadow in purples, another mascara, an eyeliner pen, nail polish, and an eyeshadow application brush. Plus this month's bag itself is super cute. I can't wait to try all the products. They are all in small sizes, then you have the opportunity to buy the regular size product at a discounted price, I guess. I haven't done that.
I know nothing about cosmetics; I've always just bought any makeup I wanted at Target, so I only know Maybelline and Cover Girl and the like. Apparently the brands that Ipsy sends are more upscale but I don't actually know. I do know that I love the mascara they sent last month. It goes on so clean and washes off very nicely. It thickens my sparse but long lashes. The eye shadow actually stays on all day. I use coconut oil to wipe off the makeup at the end of the day before I wash my face, and the wipe has shadow on it, which is new for me. I've been weirdly happy about this subscription. It's around $13/month. I don't know how long I'll keep getting it, but for now, I really like it.
I doubt anyone even notices I have make up on. I don't wear it so heavy that it is noticeable. But I notice and I feel good, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I don't know if you remember, but many years ago I subscribed to something like that. It was called COSMETIQUE. I got a box every month and but I could return the box if I didn't like it, but generally, it was nice, sample sizes, from good brands. I may have still have kept a couple of things, like some nice brushes etc. It was fun to open. I hope you enjoy the boxes :)
