#2453 thankful for snow boots

We got a couple of inches of snow yesterday and it's cold so we still have snow. I was a bit scared to take Mac for a walk this morning because she can be a strong puller and I was worried that I might slip if there was icy patches. I put on my snow boots, but thankfully the sidewalks were clear and dry so there was no danger. Mac loves to walk in the snow and at one point, she tugged me a little and I stepped into a pile of snow. I thought, "Thank God I wore my snow boots." Then I thought about what I'd just thought and realized God had nothing to do with my choice to wear the boots.

From there I recalled a memory from a dinner with Mom's cousin Franco in Barcelona five years ago. We were eating in a fantastic little restaurant, chatting, drinking cava, and having a good time. At one point Franco said, "I didn't realize you were so religious."

The three of us laughed and told him we weren't religious at all and where did he get that idea? "The three of you are always saying 'Oh my God' or 'God' or 'Thank God' or something like that. I thought you were very religious."

Over the years I have often thought about his words when I say anything about God. It is just an expression, of course, but I know I overuse it.  I am pretty far from religion at this point in my life and although I think there must be a higher power, I'm unsure what to call it.

Isn't it funny how a simple thing like stepping in a pile of snow and being thankful you chose to wear snow boots can send your thoughts all over the place?

To wrap up, enjoy this concert video from one of my favorite bands, The Police, and their song O My God.
