Tonight I tried a new class (for me) called Hip Hop Dance. I thought it would be like Zumba except with hip hop music instead of Latin music. Maybe sometimes it is like that, but not today. Today the class consisted of learning the choreography for one song. One. Song.
We did the first 16 counts like 70 times, then the instructor added the next 16 counts, and we did those a jillion times and then he turned on the music. We practiced those first 32 counts lots and lots of times. We did eventually get through most of the song in the hour. The middle part of the song included lots of twerking and even a bit of floor humping. I skipped the floor humping part, but my twerking skills are semi-strong. (HAHAHAHAHA)
The weird thing is that I don’t even know the name of the song or who sings it. The weirdest part is that even after repeating those steps over and over and over and over, I don’t think that I could remember how to do the dance. I’m pretty sure I could remember some of it, but probably not all the way through.
Will I ever do the class again? I didn’t have a great experience, but I remember the first time I tried Zumba. It was hard and I didn’t know what the heck I was doing. The first time I tried cycling my bum hurt so bad from the stupid tiny seat that sitting was painful. I tried both of those classes a second time and it became more fun and less painful. So, yes, I will likely do the hip hop class again. I’ll report back on my progress.
