When MT went to the doctor on Friday, he was prescribed a new medication to help with his raging acid reflux. He has been taking medicine that hasn’t been doing the trick. I took the new prescription to the pharmacy and was told that our insurance doesn’t cover it. The doctor told me that might be the case and told me to call them if we needed alternatives. The pharmacist offered to call the doctor and said he would call me back later in the day. I asked what the price for the meds would be if I paid out of pocket. It would be $800 for a 90 day supply. $800.
Of course, there was no call, and then I went to California. MT didn’t follow up with the pharmacy, and the doctor’s office was closed.
On Tuesday I called the doctor’s office and told his assistant about our dilemma. She told me to download the GoodRx app. She said that with the app, we could get a 30 day supply for between $12 and $15 depending on the pharmacy, but definitely not at Walgreens. I ended up picking up the medicine today at Smiths for about $14 for a 30 day supply. $14
I’m thankful we have insurance. I do wonder what the heck is up with an $800 prescription that can help someone live a a good, healthy life.

Good for the assistant to tell you about the app. + Is the medicine the same than the $800 one?
