As we prepare to say "So long, 2021!", I thought it would be fun to recap the year and post my favorite photo from each month. This is quite a long post, yo, so I hope you stay with it to the end :)
JANUARY
By far the best thing about the first month of the year was the addition of Harley to our family! She is such a sweet girl, and immediately fit in with us. I had my doubts when MT suggested that we get another dog, but we really lucked out with this crazy, awesome lab. She and Mac are so great together. It feels like Harley has been with us for as long as we've had Mac. What did we do without her?
FEBRUARY
A couple things happened at our house in February. Harley split a toenail and had to go to the vet to get it fixed. This is also the month that my rotator cuff was torn, although I wouldn't get the diagnosis until the end of October. I changed roles at work due to a "restructure". It has been an adjustment. My favorite photo was taken at Red Butte Garden. I really love the ominous-looking sky. Winter photos can be pretty amazing.
MARCH
In March, MT and I took both doses of the Covid vaccine. March is also T's birthday month, and I took him to the day spa for a manicure and pedicure. It was his first time, and wasn't the last!
APRIL
This month marked a return to going out to a restaurant - not just for take away, we actually sat in the restaurant and had a meal. I also bravely booked a trip to California and a trip to Cost Rica. April marked my 25th year with my employer. That number still boggles my mind. My favorite photo shows MT and Harley in what has become a familiar position.
MAY
This month MT went on vacation to the Outer Banks with his first family. I didn't go because when the plans for this trip were made, I was planning to be returning from France. When the France trip fell through, I decided not to go to OBX anyway. MT turned 60 in May. My car was rear-ended on the highway. We continued to take the dogs to the dog park, which is where I took this funny photo. The moment I saw it when I was going through the pics, I knew I had to use it here! What the heck is up with Mac and all those teeth?!
JUNE
I turned 55 this month. At work, I moved out of the office I'd been in for over 15 years and moved into a little cubicle (that kinda hurt, TBH). I also went to visit my mom and sister. It was the first time we'd seen each other in person since February 2020, so it was pretty amazing to be with them again. Of course my favorite photo had to be one with them. I chose this one that Lizzie took of Mom and I.
JULY
The biggest thing for me was that I stopped going to WW after a whole bunch of years. I don't regret it, but it was and continues to be a big change. The best thing was the getting back to seeing and hearing live music! I saw Jason Isbell at Red Butte Garden. MT and I went to a couple of Bluebird Cafe shows at Sundance.
AUGUST
There were three big things that happened to us in the eighth month. T went to rehab. MT went on a month-long backpacking trip with his brother (it actually ended up being about three weeks, but it was intense and epic!). The other thing was that Mom and Lizzie came to visit. One of my favorite things we did was a walk around Silver Lake. I love this photo that Lizzie took.
SEPTEMBER
This month, T moved from in-patient rehab/recovery to a sober living facility. It was an adjustment for all of us, and I think it was absolutely the right thing for all of us, as well. Much of my time was spent preparing for the trip to Costa Rica. My favorite photo is from Red Butte Garden. When I was going through my photos, this one jumped out at me. I think it's pretty.
OCTOBER
The month can be summed up in two words: Costa Rica. I was only there for a week, and it was completely amazing and kind of life-changing. I drink regular brewed coffee at home now, not just mochas and lattes from Starbucks every now and again. I totally loved hanging out with Lizzie. She is an awesome travel partner. She took this photo of us at the Guanacaste hotel and what I love about it is that we both look happy and relaxed.
NOVEMBER
The biggest, bestest thing about November was surprising Lizzie for her 50th birthday! It was a total spur-of-the-moment decision and I am SO glad Mom and I made it happen. It was such a fun long weekend. I actually have two favorite photos. This first one was when I arrived at the house late at night on Lizzie's birthday. I am, characteristically, showing zero chill.
DECEMBER
This month started out great because MT and I decided to go on vacation in Europe in April. Of course, the damn Virus might have something to say about it, but we are planning on taking this trip. Speaking of the The Virus, T got it. He moved home and isolated for ten days. It's been a little strange to have him back since he's been out of the house since August. He's is negative for The Virus now, thankfully.
My favorite photo this month is a pic I took of the doggos. I got Harley a mint-green cable knit sweater to keep her warm on our daily walks. Using a treat to bribe them into a pose, I was able to snap this one before they broke ranks to get the cookie.
A couple of other notes about 2021:
Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley
I fell in love with Ted Lasso
Dua Lipa's song Levitating was my fav jam
I've gained around 10 lbs this year - not just since I quit WW.
A very happy new year's celebration to all of you. Be safe and have fun. My plan is to write here on New Year's Day. I really hope I can be crowing about a Utah victory in the Rose Bowl!
Peace!
