Mac seems to be back to normal. She is eating heartily, playing hard, and gets as excited to go for walks as she did before her tummy troubles.
Harley is doing better today. She hadn’t been eating much at all, so last night, I poured a little chicken broth on her kibble. At first, she took a kibble, licked it, then spit it out and moved on to the next. As they started to soften, she would crunch them up a bit, but then spit out the broken-up crunchies. Finally, when the kibbles, or kibs as I call them, were soft, she ate them up. This behavior made me think she had tooth pain, so I googled what tooth pain would look like for a dog. Sure enough, Harley was exhibiting several signs of dental pain. I gently and carefully pulled back her lips to get a look at her teeth, and her gums do look a little puffy and are not a nice, healthy pink. I’m taking her to the vet tomorrow to have her checked. I wonder if she broke a tooth gnawing on a bone or something. She really gets after those bones.
In the meantime, I gave her more kibs with chicken broth and a bit of soft dog food. She ate everything. It was quite a bit slower than she normally eats, but she did eat it all, thankfully. She also had a food-filled frozen Kong tonight, which made me feel happy.
These critters! Good thing they are so dang cute and fun.
