MT and I really enjoyed seeing and hearing Jason Isbell last night! We had very nice seats in row Q, center section.
Obs, this is before the show started. We got there pretty early, and that was fine. We had a quick meal at Zupas before the show. It was snowing a bit, so I was glad to get there and be seated. I read and MT played a game on his phone until the show started.
Shawn Colvin opened. She just came out by herself, looking like a little pixie elf with her cute hair. I only knew one song, Sunny Came Home. Shawn sounded good. I kinda loved that she was up there alone, no band, just her and her guitar. She played for about 45 minutes.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit came out around 9:15 and played until nearly 11:00. If you listen to his albums, you know that he is a very good singer and songwriter. His music sounds pretty mellow on the albums. He writes some damn melancholy tunes, that's for sure. In concert, though, the dude jams! Guitarists gotta jam, I guess. The band, The 400 Unit, is solid. They were rocking out. The guitar player was fantastic and really fun to watch. The music and the musicians are dynamic and exciting when they perform live. MT and I both commented on that phenomenon after the show.
This was my third time seeing them in concert, and I think it was my favorite time. The first two times, I was at Red Butte Garden, and I was about as far from the stage as I could possibly be. This time, I was in a comfy seat in a climate-controlled theater. Since I was close enough to the stage, I could see their faces and watch the band interact with each other. I really liked that.
I took a couple of photos. There was a man with a rather large head sitting two rows in front of me. You can't miss the dude's huge melon in these photos:
I cropped the top photo to remove the man with the big head.

Better! LOL
Most people did wear masks the whole time, a requirement of the performer and the venue, although there were some people I saw who took off their masks when they got to their seats. I saw security trying to enforce the mask wearing, but I'm sure that would have been a tough job. It was pretty distracting when they tried to do it.
The next show we have on our schedule is Chris Stapleton in June. I bought tickets for both Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton back in late 2019, and the shows were originally scheduled for 2020. They were rescheduled for 2021, but the time was not yet right and safe.
Red Butte Garden currently has 21 shows lined up for the summer, and they are still adding dates. They haven't announced the line-up, except for a couple of early shows in May. I think tickets for all the RBG shows will go on sale in mid-April. The Bluebird Cafe shows at Sundance will go on sale on April 11.
I so enjoy listening to live music! I'll be honest, though: I was really tired today. We got home around midnight, and I don't think I calmed down enough to drift off to sleepy-land until close to 1:00. I'm so glad I got to work from home today. I slept in until 6:37, brushed my teeth, got dressed, and commuted down the stairs in time to log in at 7 am. I drank a bunch of coffee and it helped get me through the morning.
