#2756 travel Tuesday: next up…

In almost two months exactly, my sister and I will be on our way to Greece! It’s been awhile coming, and wasn’t even the original destination.  It’s funny how things work out, isn’t it?

The plan is to leave LA on Oct 18. We’ll fly to Athens via Frankfurt, Germany, and get to Athens on the 19th, which is Wednesday. We’ll stay in Athens three nights (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday), then on Saturday, the 22nd, we’ll fly over to the Greek island of Crete. We’ll stay in Chania (pronounced HA-nya) for a week being creative and seeing some cool stuff. We will leave Chania on Saturday, the 29th and fly, via Athens, to Munich, Germany. We’ll spend the 29th and 30th in Munich, then fly back to LA on the 31st. I’ll return to SLC on Nov 1, just in time to go to the Post Malone show that night.

I know. It’s a lot.

While we are in Athens, we will, of course, see the Acropolis and it’s museum. We will also go on a walking tour along an ancient riverbed where Plato and Socrates are known to have done their teachings. Plato! Socrates! We will also be doing a food tour one evening. The food tour MT and I did in Rome was fantastic. I can only imagine a Greek food tour will be equally outstanding.

In Chania, we are going to be involved in a creativity workshop with an artist from San Diego who Lizzie knows, Jill Badonsky. Jill and the travel agent she works with, Carlo, have a really fun itinerary planned. I am excited and a little nervous about the creativity part. I’m curious how I will react and what I will create. Lizzie has done a retreat in Taos with Jill, and she enjoyed it a lot. She says that Jill is playful and fun and makes the whole thing relaxed and enjoyable. Plus, I’ll be on a Greek island! I’m quite sure I will be completely enchanted.

The thing that is interesting about Chania, and Crete in general, is that it is NOT all white buildings and blue roofs. It seems like the buildings are more orange or yellow, like you’d see in Rome, for example. Also, I can’t quite believe that I get to experience two of the most ancient western civilizations in the same year. I feel incredibly fortunate.

As a random bonus, we get to spend an extra day in Munich. It worked out that we would have to spend the night there, anyway, so we decided to add a day so we could see the city. Lizzie and I both figured that since we were there, we might as well check it out. It was actually MT’s idea to add the extra day. It didn’t take much convincing. We do have a walking tour scheduled of the city. We thought about going to see Neuschwanstein Castle, but it’s a full day trip, and we are looking forward to exploring Munich.

As happy as I am about the destination, my absolute favorite thing is that I’ll be hanging out with Lizzie for a couple of weeks! I’m lucky to have two great travel partners in my husband and my sister.  I know I will see things in Greece and think of MT, just as I saw things in Italy and thought of Lizzie.

I’m sure I’ll be writing more about this trip in the weeks ahead. There are art supplies to purchase. There are Greek and German words to learn (just the basics). There are probably clothes to buy, and travel books to read. I’ve already got quite a collection of pins on my Athens-Chania-Munich Pinterest board.

Squeee! I love to travel and see new things!
