I’ve been thinking about how to organize writing about the vacation. I think what I’ll do is pick a day in a haphazard manner and write about it. No order, just winging it as I feel like or have time to write about the day in some detail. There might just be times when I go on and on about a single thing, if the muse takes me there.
This afternoon, I had a couple of minutes to daydream while a report was generating at work. I picked a photo I took at the Crete Botanical Park to edit using the Snapseed app. I’ve used the app on and off for a couple of years, and it was something the Jill the Artist, recommended we use to enhance some of our photos. I have mixed feelings about filters on photos. While I agree that the filters can enhance the photo, it changes what the camera saw, what I saw. Does it mess up the integrity of the photo, or does it bring the photo more life?
Here’s the edited photo. I thought I had saved this edit so I could still see the original, but I don’t see the original in the files now. Here is a similar photo, I took two different photos from slightly different angles.
You can see in the top photo (the edited one), that I used a filter that enhanced the colors and sharpened the structure of the trees and the detail on the door. I also used another filter to give it more of an antique look, then put a black frame around it. I like the way the edited photo looks, I just feel a little nervous about changing the original. Am I being weird?
Anyway, I bought myself some watercolor paintbrushes today. Lizzie was kind enough to share with me when we were in Crete, and I liked it enough that I want to have my own. The brushes I bought aren’t high quality, but I’m a beginner and these brushes will do for now.
Jill encouraged us to take photos of our sketches as they are in progress. Here’s what I played with tonight.
One of the exercises we did was to draw several boxes, then put wee sketches in them that we could later paint or color in some way. It seems like every time I draw a box, it is very small. It’s something I can practice doing better. I see that I’m usually a little crooked, too. LOL Obviously, these boxes are filled with things I saw in Munich, Germany. I’m excited to do a little painting on some of the sketches. Other sketches might be colored pencil or gel pen. I’ll post progress photos as I continue to play with these sketches. I’ll probably also post my photos I used to sketch from, as well.
See you back here tomorrow!
