#2802 Venetian lighthouse in Chania

Happy Colonizer Day Thanksgiving, USA. Here’s hoping everyone had a good day gathering with friends and family to feast, hang out, and maybe watch a little football. I did all those things in Pocatello with MT’s folks. We are back home tonight. It was a long drive for a meal, but the company was totally worth the effort.

I’m just going to make a quick little post tonight, focusing on the lighthouse in Chania. The lighthouse is, without a doubt, the crown jewel of the Old Harbor. It was built by the Venetians in the late 1500s, and reconstructed over the years. There is quite a long sea wall you can walk along to get to the base of the lighthouse, but once you reach the base, that’s all the further you can go. You can’t enter the structure itself. The lighthouse is no longer operational, but it does look extra pretty at night.

I probably took at least one photo per day of the lighthouse each day I was there. I just couldn’t help myself! It is very picturesque. See for yourself:

First photo of lighthouse. I liked the three little sailboats in the frame and nearly missed the shot!

This photo is from our last day in Chania. The sea was a little rough. Dramatic.

Late afternoon sunlight hitting the lighthouse just so.

As close as you can get and still have a photo of the lighthouse
