We are going totally unrelated with three things tonight. Ready? Let's go!
1. No 'poo. I follow a woman on IG who recently posted that she has stopped washing her hair with shampoo. She said the skin on her face had been dry and breaking out, so she'd heard about some women stopping the use of shampoo and their skin cleared up. This woman I follow is in her 50s, she is English and now lives in Portugal. She is an influencer, and I confess I was influenced to try the no 'poo method and just use water to rinse my hair. My thing is that my skin is quite dry, so I thought it might be okay to let the natural oils in my scalp have some time to come out. I washed my hair with shampoo on Saturday, then let it dry and didn't use any product, like no gel or curl enhancer, etc. My hair felt good, clean and nice, although kind of lackluster. It didn't look bad, but it didn't really look good, either. When I showered, I just rinsed it with water and used a soft brush to stimulate my scalp. When I washed my torso, though, I used shower gel, and it made me think: What's the difference between putting soap (shampoo) on the head and putting soap (shower gel) on the body? If you are worried about sulfates and stuff like that, most soap and shampoo has that same stuff to make it lather-y. I pondered this question for a couple of days, then I decided to go ahead and wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner and use product again, which I did today, and I am okay with all of that. I do NOT wash my hair every day. I usually wash it two, maybe three times a week. That schedule seems to be fine for me. I will continue to use shampoo, thank you very much.
2. (Dead) snake in the grass. I was outside playing with the dogs this evening, walking around the yard picking up their toys. I hired a lawn care service and he's coming over tomorrow, so I didn't want the toys and frisbees in the way. As I turned down the side yard on the south side of the house, I noticed something that sort of looked like a little of piece of rope. It wasn't rope, though; it was a little dead garter snake! We have had snakes in our yard for several years. I haven't seen them, but MT has. Garter snakes are beneficial to the yard because they eat insects and stuff, and I'm okay as long as I don't see them. The thing that has me all whacked out is the thought of one of the dogs, probably Harley, bringing a snake, alive or dead, into the house. I don't even like to think of the level of shit I would lose if I found a freaking snake in my bed! The pooper scooper, Bob, is coming over tomorrow. Maybe I can ask him to scoop up the snake carcass. Or maybe Will the lawnmower man will chop it up with the mower. When I looked out this evening, a bird was pecking on it. I couldn't bring myself to scoop it up and throw it away. It just gave me the willies. Gross.
3. Dubai chocolate. Have you heard of Dubai chocolate? I saw it on IG awhile ago, and thought I would try it if I ever had the opportunity. When I was dropping T off at work tonight, the 7-11 on the corner had a sign saying they had Dubai chocolate, so I thought, "Here's my chance!"
First thing: this candy bar cost $19.99 (tariffs, you know) which is a lot, but I was committed to trying it. The bar is pretty heavy and quite thick. This is a milk chocolate bar filled with a pistachio cream and crunchy bits of phyllo dough.
That's all for tonight, and that's all for April, too. I'm looking forward to the May flowers from the April showers. I've got a full, busy month planned for May as the summer season peeks around the corner. Here we go!
