happy anniversary!

Today is my wedding anniversary! It was 14 years ago that we exchanged vows at the Little Church of the West on a hot Sunday morning in Las Vegas. I was hungover; I think The Man was a little nervous. Our parents were there. My dad walked me down the aisle. My sister was my maid of honor. The Man has two brothers and a sister. One brother was in Germany, serving in the Army so he couldn't be there. His sister was very very pregnant - she would give birth about a week later - so she didn't make the trip. His other brother was with us though and he served as best man. My college roommate was there and my sister's college roommate. We also had aunts and uncles and cousins. We were living in Idaho at the time and most of my family lives in California, so we thought Vegas would be a good middle ground. August 15 also happens to be the anniversary of Aunt P & Uncle P. They made the trip and a bunch of their kids came over from California, so we had a pretty nice group. We had a reception brunch at the Tropicana Hotel and opened our gifts in our room with everyone in there. And there was champagne and it was fun.

The Man & I are different, we always have been. He loves the outdoors and was an excellent rock climber. He likes to backpack and camp. We used to go to the City of Rocks often where I would endure climbing and climbing stories and sleeping in a tent. I can't pee in the woods, so that's a big problem for backpacking and camping. He's much more likely to strike up a conversation with a stranger than I am. He listens to NPR and wants to talk about what's happening in the world. I read the sports page.

Like all couples, we have been through a lot in our marriage. I'm happy to say that we are still going strong and still love each other. We annoy the crap out of each other sometimes; we are amused by the other's quirks, too. We argue over who is the funniest (I am). We celebrate our happiness in our son. We like to travel and explore new places from a cruise ship. We like to watch movies and read. We mostly stay to ourselves but we love to be around our friends and family when we can.

He's a great guy and I'm happy we are together. Here's to many many more years of happy anniversaries!
