why I like golf

Last Saturday I played in my company's employee golf tournament. Golf is a great game. Golf courses are always outside (!), usually very green and beautiful; the one I played on Saturday has lots of trees, nice wide fairways and a couple of ponds. It is a social game. You normally play with other people and there's lots of time to talk and hang out. Golf is a game that makes me want to pull my hair out in frustration when I hit a bad shot or makes me feel pretty darn good about myself with a good shot. A good round always makes me want to play some more; a bad round makes me want to come back and prove myself. I like golf because I compete with myself. I challenge myself to only use 2 putts per green. I challenge myself to land the ball in the fairway on each drive. I try not to make more than a bogey on each hole, but of course it doesn't always work out that way! Saturday was a best-ball tournament which means that everyone teed off, then we picked the best shot of the 4 and everyone hit from there, then we pick the best ball placement on the 2nd shot and everyone hits from there, etc. until we hole out. My team was 4 under par for the round. We didn't win and that was ok. I had a great time, met some cool people and hit some decent shots. I can't wait to hit the links again this weekend!
