my new toy

Today it was my turn to choose and receive my service award from Granite. Brian and I headed over to RC Willey in the afternoon. I got there first and went to the electronics department to pick out the camera. I chose the Canon EOS Rebel 4ooD XTI. The reason I went with the Canon is because we have a film EOS Rebel that MT bought years ago in Pocatello and we have a pretty big lens for that camera. The big lens is also compatible with the digital camera.

I'll tell you right now I probably would not ever dream of purchasing a camera like this out of my own pocket. Honestly, my first thought when I got home with it was that this is way more camera than I will ever need!

This is one of the first pictures I took with my new camera. In the bigger version you can see a little bit of peanut butter & jelly near his mouth! (you can click to enlarge.)

I've always liked taking pictures. It's fun to see something beautiful or funny and try to capture that image so you can always remember it. My pictures are not art. The are pretty images of places I've been that have meaning to me. Sometimes if I think the photo is nice enough to share, I give it to my mom to put in her house.

So now I have a camera that intimidates me a bit with all of it's settings and possibilities. I believe I will look into taking a digital photography class and maybe even read a book like Digital Photography for Dummies to get better.

Another thing I can spend hours on and use my computer for!

It was really very exciting and fun to get this wonderful new toy just for working at the same place for 10 years. I thought it was cool to have my manager with me when I got it. I didn't have the sort of emotional response to the whole situation that Jo did, but I am thrilled and happy and grateful and thankful for the service award!!
