#76 birth of a metrosexual

On Saturday night, MT, T and I went to a local department store to buy some things for the boys to take with them on our vacation. Both of them needed some slacks and a few collared shirts so they could be presentable in the main dining room on the ship. T whined and complained the entire way, telling us that he had enough clothes and who cares what he wears to dinner and he would just eat in the buffet or in our room anyway. We dragged him into the store. MT looked around, but seemed distracted by his son's attitude, so I suggested we start in the boys department. T slouched through the store, his ire evident to all who passed us.

In the boys section, we found some nice khaki pants in slim sizes, so I made him try some on. He was very disagreeable until he actually put the pants on. They looked good. They fit around the waist and were long enough. He tried on a button-down shirt I found. It was soft and blue and felt good and looked good and he checked himself out. He liked what he saw. He wanted more, but wasn't really ready to admit it.

As we were looking for more shirts, we passed some suits. I jokingly asked T if he wanted one. He sneered and said no. I laughed and we kept looking for shirts. A few minutes later he told me he'd changed his mind and he did want the suit. Hmm. He tried on a couple of the jackets, then I told him he'd have to try on the pants. He picked a black suit and a white shirt. Into the dressing room we went, and we nearly didn't come out. He fell completely in love with that suit. I almost couldn't convince him to take it off. He looked at himself in the mirror, did a couple of dance moves, pushed back his hair, smiled at himself, then looked at me with the most pleased expression on his face that I've seen in a long, long time and said, "Mom, I want this suit very much. Can I please have it? I promise your money won't go to waste. I love it." How could we say no? And he did look good.

Now he is really looking forward to vacation. He can't wait to wear The Suit. My friend is getting married in April and he desperately wants to go to the wedding so he can again wear it. He's also planning to wear it for school pictures in the fall and for any other special occasion he can come up with. The Suit is now hanging in his closet, and I actually saw him caress it gently this evening. I'm sure if I hadn't been sitting on his bed he would have put it on.

We did make it back to the mens side for MT to get a few things, but his excitement over his new clothes was absolutely nothing compared to my little boy, the budding metrosexual.

I really hope to see him in that suit some time. You gave me a good smile while reading it. I could just picture him in that dressing room. He's such a darling :-)
Love Mia
By the way what's his size?

That is hilarious! I can't really even picture it because of his previous disdain for any clothing-related gifts or excursions. But he's a handsome kid, I'm sure he'll get used to making sure he looks good.
