I weighed in today and dropped another two pounds! HOORAY! I've eaten more fruits and vegetables in the past three weeks than I probably ever have. Not a huge variety, true, but I have tried some new things and am working on incorporating them into my life. Here's some new things that I eat:
sugar snap peas - and I can eat the whole pod, not just the yummy little peas inside!
nectarines - who knew? Yum!
strawberries
V-8 Spicy Hot vegetable juice
cantaloupe
So it's a small list, but it has doubled my normal fruits & veggies (apples, grapes, lettuce, carrots, corn.) Baby steps, right? I'm working it. I try to include a fruit or veggie or both with every meal. That's probably normal for most people, but it absolutely wasn't normal for me.
I'm also really watching my portions, especially with meat and carbs like potatoes or rice. I feel pretty good because I haven't felt totally stuffed, but I've been satisfied. It's nice.
I liked the meeting I went to today. The Leader was very enthusiastic and encouraged people to tell what was working for them. I liked hearing what others do to stay motivated and on track. Right now I feel good about what I'm doing and the choices I'm making. I was talking to MT today and he was proud of my progress, but then he said that he hopes I don't "burn out." I admit that I'm worried about that too. It's highly likely that there will come a day when I say, "Man, do I want to go to La Puente for some cheesy chili verde enchiladas." I don't want to feel guilty and fall off my loser wagon that day. I think I understand that I can have that as long as I eat responsibly for the rest of the day and try to keep those binges to a minimum. But for now, I don't want to go to La Puente. I've been happy going to Cafe Rio and having their chicken salad. It's not a taco, but it's pretty delicious!
Tomorrow we are heading to Idaho to attend Marty's family reunion. We're going to a new place this year, one I've never been to, so I'm excited to check it out. We are actually camping. Usually we get a motel room in a nearby town. This year I thought we might try to tent camp. We bought a big tent yesterday along with a couple of air mattresses. I'll let you know how that works out.
What inspired the idea to camp was Jackson Hole. We stayed in a tent cabin at Colter Bay. A tent cabin has two solid walls and two tent walls. There were bunks attached to the solid walls and we each had our own bunk. It was cold the first night, but I slept pretty well and I liked waking up to hear the birds and it was all good. I don't like to sleep on the ground, or crawl into a tent. I also must have running water available nearby. Those are my camping requirements, thus the air mattress, the big tent and the campground. I'll have pictures when I return!
Ten minutes past my bedtime. Have a great weekend. I hope you all do whatever you'd like to do!
