#132 food journals and TVs

I was resting my brain at work today by looking at the online news and I found this article on msnbc.com. One of the things that I think has been really helpful to me in losing weight is keeping a food journal. Weight Watchers gives you a little booklet each week to record what you eat and how many points that food is worth. It works for me because I feel very accountable for it. I write down everything I eat and figure out the point value. A side note here - I really like that most restaurants have the nutritional information of their food online. It makes it easy to figure the points! The food journal also worked well when I did the Body-for-Life program.

I know there are people who can successfully lose weight without a food journal. I'm just not one of them. The article kind of validated keeping the journal. Not that I needed validation, but it was still nice.

Yesterday morning T was watching TV when suddenly, the TV went black. I accused him of pushing the off button, but he assured me that he didn't touch any buttons. We tried to get the TV to work by pushing all the buttons on the remote, on the TV itself, and on the cable box. When that didn't work, we reset the power, unplugged everything then plugged everything back in, but nothing worked. I told T to leave the TV alone, hoping that a miracle would happen and it would reset itself and be fine. That didn't happen either. When MT got home, he fiddled around with power and cables and stuff, but nothing happened.

The next thing I know, we're at Best Buy. Our sales guy, Miko (Niko? I'm not sure) was very knowledgeable. Although the Best Buy salespeople don't work on commission (they say), I'm pretty sure they get a bonus for any upgrades they sell. You know, like the extended service plan, the extra-cool audio system, the home theater calibration option - none of which we bought, by the way. We did end up with a cool HD TV and a surround sound system and a blu-ray disc player in the form of a PS3. (T was manically happy about the PS3.) I'll be heading to the cable company tomorrow to exchange our regular old cable TV box for a new and awesome HD cable TV box. Hooray for us! I've watched the TV for about 10 minutes so far. It was good. I'm really looking forward to watching the Olympics and baseball games in HD.

However, now is not the time for TV watching. I'm going to mow the lawn or pull some weeds, whichever MT doesn't do. I think it has cooled down to about 88 degrees now, so it shouldn't be so awful. Plus I have four points left to use today, so I may enjoy a Corona Light after the yard work!
