#406 junior high registration

Today T and I went to his new school - the junior high - to pick up his class schedule and get his locker assignment. We've been in the gym at this junior high (there are two!), but we've never been in the school itself. I liked it. It's big and capable of holding many, many students, which I'm sure it does. I was a genius (if I say so myself) and mailed in his registration, so we only had a short wait to get his paperwork.

We wandered all over the school. We found all of his classes and his locker. T was a little nervous about figuring out the lock, so he practiced for awhile until he can mostly get it after a couple of tries. I told him he wouldn't believe it, but there will come a time when he'll barely have to look at the lock; he'll just be able to get it open by turning so much to the right and to the left and back to the right. Your hand will just remember how it feels at each number. He didn't believe me.

The trouble is that he has an upper locker and he's just about half an inch short from being able to see the numbers. He has to stand on his tippy-toes. The way he's growing, though, he may be able to see the numbers by the end of the month.

We also met up with a couple of his friends at the school. One of his best friends, Eric, will be in four classes with T and his locker is close. Another friend, Kona, went to a different elementary school after third grade, but they'll be at the same junior high; in fact, Kona's locker is basically right below T's. They also have one or two classes together.

Both T and I felt pretty good about the whole registration thing. I liked that we were able to look around the school and I know that he was glad to find his locker and practice opening it.

My baby isn't such a baby anymore!

I feel bad I won't be there for his 1st day of Junior High, I think i was around since Kinder. Oh well he probably wouldn't want me to stand there and take pictures :)
Have a great year Tristan!
