Last night I tucked T into bed, then went downstairs to lock the doors and put Osi in her kennel. I heard noises upstairs, and I thought MT was up for some reason, but it wasn't MT, it was T. He was in the bathroom, looking intently at his face.
"Mom! Mom!" he said excitedly. "I think I can feel my beard coming in! Feel it!"
Trying as hard as I could not to burst out laughing, I stroked his cheek. It was rough all right, but not with little hairs; it was dry skin.
I broke the news as gently as I could. "I don't think that's your beard, buddy," I said. "Your skin is really dry. You're going to need some lotion. If you don't moisturize, the dry skin will get worse and it might start to hurt. Plus it will look ugly." He agreed and we smeared some of my moisturizer on his cheeks. His skin was better this morning.
Tonight we had a lesson on skin care. I showed him how to wash his face using the same soap I use (Johnson's Baby Wash - it's really great, very gentle and mild and doesn't bother my eyes, so I like it a lot.) I showed him how to scrub his face and apply the moisturizer. He did a good job, and he didn't seem to mind it.
I like this new self-aware boy!
