Yesterday morning MT and I were sitting around our table. I was having breakfast and he was working on a glass project. I heard a sort of popping sound and looked up at MT who was staring at me. I said, "What was that little noise?"
"The chair," he said, looking at me intently. I giggled. "I want to go buy a new table and chairs right now," he said. "This stuff is so old that the legs are starting to poke through the seats. One day, one of our parents will be sitting here and the whole chair will just break and the parent will crash to the floor. I want new furniture. Let's go."
So we did. We went to five stores, and found something we liked at each one. The problem was that we didn't love any of the sets we found. There was always a "but." Until we went to the sixth store, which probably should have just been the first store because I was pretty sure we'd find something we loved in the sixth store. We've bought furniture there before and I still love it.
Sure enough, there it was: a beautiful rectangular table made of solid cherry with six wooden (cherry) chairs with upholstered seats. And it was on sale! We also bought a new rug to put under the table and as a bonus piece, a really pretty buffet. We decided to go ahead and get a padded cover for the table. Cherry is pretty soft and scratches easily. So we got eight pieces of furniture, a rug and a protective pad for the price of a table and six chairs at one of the other stores. Yes, it was more than I anticipated spending, but I know that the furniture will probably last for the rest of our lives. AND we get to pay for it over 24 months at 0 interest! Totally do-able.
I'm excited! We should get the furniture in about four weeks or so. MT didn't like the host and hostess chair that came with the set, so we had to order some different ones. Plus, the buffet that was on the floor was already sold, so that had to be ordered also. I really liked the finish on the floor model. It was the same color as our table, then had a contrasting lighter color on the doors and drawers. It was very eye-catching. Our buffet will be a solid finish the same color as the table. It will be nice.
Now MT wants to repaint the room and put trim on the windows. I'm ok with that because I'm getting a little tired of the yellow paint we have in there now. I don't know what color we'll do yet. I hope that he will be able to finish the project before the furniture comes. I'll post pics when we've got it all!
