I was sitting here sorting through my big pile of (mostly junk) mail and thinking what an exciting life I lead. Here it is, Friday night, and I'm sitting around in yoga pants and an oversize t-shirt that says "Got rum?" (no, I don't) and going through my mail. Then I remembered that it's not Friday night, so I'm not quite as pathetic as I thought I was! It only feels like Friday because I took tomorrow off. Why, you ask? Well, my dad and my aunt are here visiting and T has the day off from school, so I thought it would be cool to hang out with them. I think we'll go out to one of my favorite places in the valley, the Gardens at Thanksgiving Point. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we'll be able to see some beautiful fall colors out there.
Can you believe that tomorrow is already the middle of October? This month has gone by fast. Dad and Mary got here on the 8th and we've just been hanging out. Their first weekend here I mostly napped. I am so tired on the weekends! Plus, weekends mean football and I love to chill out with a football game on and snooze. I can't snooze during baseball or basketball games. I want to watch every moment of those games. With football I can just zone out. It's relaxing to me. I'm not sure why because football isn't really a relaxing sport. All that hitting and throwing and whistling and yelling. It's hypnotic!
Did you watch any of the Chilean miner's rescue? I LOVED IT! I didn't watch every minute, in fact, I probably only saw one or two miners actually come out of the capsule. It made me feel so happy that after all that time, the miners were rescued and they were safe and healthy and people all over the world were happy that they were brought home safely. It gave me hope that everything would be all right after all.
On the crap news side, did you happen to hear about the Mormon leader's words about gays? Ugh. The president of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, Boyd Packer, had some really yucky things to say about gays during the LDS General Conference last Sunday. Basically, Elder Packer said that people can learn not to be gay or lesbian, that homosexuality is not biological. "Not so," declared Packer. "Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone? Remember, he is our father."
UGH. It was reported in the Salt Lake Tribune that the church "tweaked" Packer's remarks in their online publication. Whatever. I think he said exactly what he wanted and meant to say. I didn't like it. It was ugly and cruel.
I think I'll go read something about the miner's joy at being rescued and how happy their families were to see them again. Good job, Chile!!

It was great seeing the miners come up safe and sound, that was the best reality show ever!
I totally agree with you on your views of Parker. Have you seen the video Lizzie put in FB? it's also in You Tube. I think everybody should watch it and talk to their kids about it.
How was Thanksgiving Point? :)
