#1179 family movie night: Godzilla

You know how much we love movies and we could not resist the pull of a big film. T picked Godzilla and because the reviews of it were good, we decided to give it a try.

So, you know, it's a monster movie. There are two different kinds of monsters: the Muto which feeds on radioactive material, and Godzilla, who is prehistoric and lives in the Pacific Ocean. When the Mutos are awakened, Godzilla rises from the deep to stop the Mutos. Godzilla is the good guy, but still very large and very destructive.

The first part of the movie features some acting from Bryan Cranston, but the second hour of the movie is mostly just roaring by the monsters and people scrambling about ineffectually. The monsters start out over in Japan, demolish Honolulu and have their final battle in San Francisco.

The theater we were in had the Dolby Atmos sound system and that was pretty spectacular. The system features speakers all through the venue, so if a plane is flying overhead in the film, you will hear the sound of the plane over your head.

T was funny. He kept saying, "This is really stressful." He also squirmed around a lot and jumped a little when the monsters popped up out of the darkness or caused birds to suddenly fly up. I thought the film was all right. I didn't really get where the Mutos came from, but it doesn't really matter. It was a gigantic monster movie.
