#1180 the maximizer

Several years ago at work, we were all about the Gallup measurements of employee engagement. Along with that, we all read the book by Marcus Buckingham that talked about the 32 strengths that people have. One of the strengths was "Maximizer".  People who are strong in the maximizer theme take a good idea and try to make it great, make it bigger and better.

MT is a maximizer. There are several examples of his maximizer tendencies. For example, when we were planning our last trip to the Dominican Republic, we had settled on 10 days, but then MT decided that since we were there anyway, couldn't we stretch it out a couple more days? Wouldn't it be good to stay in Santo Domingo and explore the capital a little?

I had another experience with the maximizer today. The light in T's room wasn't working. We changed the light bulb, but it was the actual fixture that was broken. Yesterday I bought some light-reducing, heat-reducing curtains for T's room, so it was DARK in there. I asked MT if he could get a new light fixture for the boy's room.

Sure, we can get a new light fixture for T's room, he says. And what do you think about getting new light fixtures for the front room, the kitchen, the dining room and the other three rooms upstairs?

Um...

Off we went to Lowe's to get new light fixtures. For the upstairs room, we got fixtures we call "boob lights" because well, they look like boobs.

Now we have a boob light in T's room and two boob lights in the kitchen. We also have boob lights for my room, the guest room and the office. In the front room, we have a fancy boob light. It has some nice decorative stuff on it.

The dining room light is my favorite.

One thing that has always bugged me about our dining room light was that it was off-center. It was mostly just hanging over MT's end of the table. MT fixed that irritation with this light. The light had quite a long chain, so he bought a hook and was able to drape the light more over the table. It's looks good and I really like it!

I have to admit that I don't pay much attention to some household details. Like I couldn't have told you what the light in the kitchen looked like. I had to ask T to take a picture of it and send it to me. Can you believe that? I know what it looks like now, though! I'm glad that MT decided to maximize the updating of the light fixtures. Although I wasn't really into picking out the fixtures, I do appreciate the fact that he pushed me to pick the lights out and that he can install them.

Interesting!
But I have to say, I am not a maximizer at all :)
