I'm pretty sure I mentioned that MT and I went over to our friend's house on the 14th to celebrate the birthday of their little boy. Well, one of the things the kids did at the party was (attempt) to break open a pinata. I'm not sure they had the right whacking device for the project; they were using an oversize plastic bat and I totally understand why. There were a whole bunch of little kids and although everyone was very good about staying back behind the caution tape (construction industry perk), someone could have been hurt if they had used a big wooden stick or a nine iron. After I watched Kelsie rip the darn pinata apart by hand, I'm pretty sure only a nine iron would have been able to break that thing!
Thinking about the right tool for the job made me think back to a vacation we took to Mexico in 2009. We went on a cruise down the Mexican Riviera (the Pacific side of Mexico). Our second stop was at Mazatlan. For our excursion, we went to a small island near the cruise ship terminal. I think it was called Stone Island. We had a really fun day there. The beach was wide and long and the highlight of the day was riding an ATV up and down the beach for a couple of hours.
We also had lunch there and after lunch, the excursion hosts put up a pinata for the kids to whack. T was nearly 11, so he had some good shots at it. The pinata was in the shape of Donald Duck and it was strung up on a line that could be pulled up and down and to and fro. It was hilarious to watch the kids try to bash the pinata. I'm sure that it got broken apart eventually, but I don't remember the specifics.
I found this pic of T trying to break the pinata in Mexico. Good times!
PS - Did you watch the US/Portugal match today? I thought the US had it won, but you can't fault that pass from Ronaldo and that header for the equalizing goal. Exciting!!
