#1211 TBT: Dominican Republic 2011
Instead of posting a travel quote tonight, I thought I would post a Throwback Thursday vacation pic. Here we are in the town of Las Galeras on the Samana peninsula of the Dominican Republic. It was the starting point of our excursion to Playa Rincon.
On this trip to the DR, we stayed at Cayo Levantado. We probably stayed there a bit longer than we should have. We had what was arguably one of the worst rooms on the property. It was very close to the kitchen and employee areas of the main building, so there were always a lot of people coming and going when we were sitting out on the little patio. The room was big, but it was full of beds: we each had our own bed. There was very little privacy; we were always together without having a place, other than the bathroom, to get away from the other two. Also, there were lots of little centipedes in the bathroom. We told the staff about the bugs, and they sprayed to get rid of them, so one day we came home to lots and lots of dead bugs in the bathroom. Awful.
We spent a lot of time at the pool. It was one of the nicest pools I've ever been in. I actually really liked the place. I would just want a different room if we ever went back. I got the most tan of any place we have been, I think. I spent literally hours laying by the pool reading and also playing in the pool with T. We invented games to play and bought pool toys. MT took his SCUBA lessons there. I was completely relaxed.
The resort was located on a small island off the coast. The grounds were lovely, as was the main building. T was annoyed because the internet service wasn't great. Actually, T was annoyed most of the time we were there. I think it was just his age; a phase he was going through. I remember there were sometimes that he was cool.
We didn't go off-island very much, just twice, I think. The excursion to Playa Rincon was one of those times. That was a beautiful beach. MT has often said he would like to go back there and stay at Las Galeras. Maybe someday...
