#1238 anniversary weekend

On Friday, MT and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. It's crazy to think we have been married for 21 years already! We met in college in 1986 or 1987 and started going out together. We got an apartment together in 1988 and married in 1993. He's a good guy and I'm happy to have him in my life. :)

We decided that to celebrate, we would have a little get-away. We decided to stay at the Homestead Resort in Midway, UT. I had been there before on a work function many years ago, but MT had never been there. The Heber Valley area is really beautiful and I was happy to get away from the heat of the Salt Lake Valley.

We had a beautiful room in the Valley View cabin. There really was a nice view of the Heber Valley:

The Homestead has a golf course, so that's what you see in the foreground, with the Heber Valley beyond that.

When we got to the room, we had a drink and watched the end of a movie - 42, the movie about Jackie Robinson. It was great to relax and hang out a little. After the movie, we decided to have some dinner. We went to a restaurant that is on site. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the lovely evening. The food was good, the weather was perfect and we had a nice time. There was a wedding reception happening in the area next to the restaurant, and there was dancing so there was music. Plus, out on the front lawn, there was a live music concert happening. The resort sponsors the concerts every Friday in the summer and there were lots of people there.

After we ate dinner, we wandered over and sat on the lawn and listened to the last few songs. All of the empty space you see in the photo as occupied by the time we got there. It was quite the social event. Some people were dancing, some people brought their dogs, there were people chatting and generally enjoying the evening. Fun!

This morning we walked up to the Crater. It's a geothermal hot spring that has pushed up the earth to form a dome of sorts on the property. We walked up to the top; it's not much too look down into the crater, but the view of the valley and the mountains from up there is nice. We walked down into the crater where the water is. It was pretty neat. The water is very warm. We didn't soak; maybe another time.

After breakfast we decided to take a drive into the Uinta Mountains. I had only been on Mirror Lake Highway once before, a few years ago in May and it was totally snowy and we didn't get very far. Today the road was dry and the sun was shining and it was a nice drive through the forest.

We went all the way to Mirror Lake. It was pretty!

There were many people out enjoying the Utah wilderness today. There is lots of camping and fishing and picnic areas in the area, so there were lots of cars and trucks with trailers and RVs on the road. Also plenty of motorcycles. It's a nice drive. The road goes all the way through to Evanston, Wyoming, but we didn't go that far. We turned around at a trailhead and saw these pretty wildflowers:

I was hoping we would see more wildflowers, but it is pretty late in the season, so these were a bonus!

On the way back down, we decided to stop at the Provo River Falls. The river is running kind of low since it is so late in the season, but the falls were quite beautiful.

This picture shows the first in a series of falls. It was the tallest. There were people playing in the river down below the falls. The water was nice and cool. I didn't get in the river, but I couldn't resist putting my fingers in the water to check out the temperature.

After the stop at the falls, we decided to head on home. We were gone for about 24 hours. T did just fine on his own. He stayed up all night watching TV, but was awake when we got home.

What a nice way to celebrate our anniversary!
