August was pretty fun and interesting this year! Let's recap:
The first week, T went to visit his grandparents in Southern California. MT and I didn't do much while he was gone. My work is very busy the first week of the month, so we just worked and hung out at home.
I went to Southern Cal on the second Friday. T and I went to see/hear Rihanna and Eminem at the Rose Bowl. I enjoyed that adventure quite a lot! That weekend my sister came up to my parent's house from San Diego, so we could all hang out together. Mostly fun, I'd say.
The very next weekend, MT and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. On a whim and with encouragement from T, we decided to have an overnight get-away to the Homestead Resort in Midway. It's so beautiful up there! On Sunday we took a drive into the Uinta Mountains. It's pretty amazing that so much wilderness is only a couple of hours drive from Salt Lake City. Lovely weekend.
We didn't do much on the fourth weekend of the month. We stayed home and relaxed and puttered around.
T started school on the 25th. He's a high school junior now. He's got some interesting classes and some that will be difficult and take a lot of time. I know he's up for the challenge. I hope that he finds some ways to squeeze some fun into his life, too. I'm encouraging him to get involved with some after-school activities, but so far he hasn't found anything that he's interested in. It's early, though.
The first college football game was on the 28th. My adopted team, the Utah Utes, played against the team from my alma mater, Idaho State. It wasn't a fair fight. Utah is in the Pac-12 conference and is a Division I school. ISU is Division II or something. Utah won easily, but I thought ISU played pretty well and Utah still has some work to do to compete solidly in their conference.
Now here we are at the Labor Day weekend - the last big weekend of the summer. It's already feeling a little bit like autumn. On Saturday we drove up to Pocatello to visit family. It's my nephew Chris' birthday, so we went out to dinner with him and his girlfriend. I enjoy hanging out with them. Here's a trippy thing: MT and I met on the day that Chris was born. How crazy is that?! By the way, Chris celebrated his 27th birthday :)
We drove home today after spending most of the day with Jake and Linda. We went looking at houses in Poky. No, we're not planning to move back, but MT may do some investing there with his brother Kelly. We also went out to visit Aunt Pat and her boys, then we had lunch at a place called The Sand Trap. It's right by a golf course. I enjoyed some finger steaks and fries. I think finger steaks might be a food item that is unique to Idaho because I've never had them anywhere else. They are little pieces of steak that are battered and fried. Delicious! You dunk them in a mixture of horseradish and ketchup. It may sound kind of gross, but don't judge until you try it. Nom nom nom.
Tomorrow we all have the day off from school and work. My plans are to do all the laundry, clean up the house a bit and in general do the chores I normally would do on Sunday. I will also take time to read and maybe buy some new pillows and think about all the things I would like to accomplish in September.
September may be my favorite month of the year. The weather here is usually really gorgeous in the ninth month. I love cool mornings and evenings and warm days! Plus it get's me in the mood for the fourth quarter with all of it's fun holidays. And there's football. What's not to like?
AND...September is an odd number month, so I will challenge myself to write something here every day. I look forward to coming up with something to say every day.
So see you tomorrow!
