Tonight T and I met with his teachers for the first mid-term parent-student-teacher conferences. I'm glad I left work a bit early because the place was packed. We were there for about 90 minutes to visit with eight teachers. Most of the time was spent waiting in line.
Even though (or maybe because) T is a good student, I think it's important to go visit with his teachers and hear what they have to say about his work and his behavior. I'm fortunate that all eight teachers told me that T is a good member of their class, that he turns in his homework, participates in class and seems to understand what he is learning. It makes me feel proud of him and happy that I took the time when he was little to encourage him to do his homework and to develop good work habits. I think the time spent sitting with him at his desk every night when he was little is paying off now. He's on it!
I also like that his teachers have high expectations of him. One teacher in particular talked to T about an assignment that he didn't get a very good grade on. The teacher flat out told T that he thought T could do better, then he gave T a look as if challenging T to deny it. T had the grace to look a little embarrassed and he admitted that he slacked off a bit because he wanted to go do something else. T has the opportunity to do the assignment over and I think he will do a lot better the next time. I told the teacher to keep challenging T; I liked it.
I don't think I've bragged about my boy for awhile, so I was due. That's what blogs are for, isn't it, to talk about your kid(s)?
