#1304 Sunday matinee: Birdman

This afternoon T and I went to see the film Birdman. I didn't know anything about it except that Michael Keaton is in it and the story is about an aging actor who played a superhero in his younger years. (Michael Keaton was Batman in 1989.)

Birdman was a strange movie. It was kind of like "artsy" and not very satisfying to me. Everyone was busy "acting" and I never felt like I was seeing anything real. The performances were all over-the-top to me and I couldn't really get into it.

Adding to my overall discomfort was the man sitting in front of me who laughed uproariously at times that didn't call for uproarious laughter, in my opinion. The situation might have called for a chuckle, but not a big laugh. This movie wasn't exactly a comedy.

Maybe I'm too immature or shallow for this type of  "important" film. Surely there will be award-show buzz for a film like this and I will be left saying, "Yeah, I just wasn't that into it". That's ok. I enjoyed hearing T's take on the film and really,  just hanging out with him is enough for me.

I'm usually not far off from the general consensus about a film, but like you I just could not get on board with this one.
I feel like I'm living in a world that thinks Birdman is a masterpiece, and I am very puzzled by that.
