Happy 4th quarter friends! I really like spring and summer is dang awesome, but nothing beats autumn for me. I really like the last three months of the year. October is my favorite of the three. Why? I like sports and everything is going in October. In this first week alone, there is the start of the baseball playoffs, the Jazz have started their preseason schedule (going to the game on Wednesday!) and the Utes play on Saturday. It's a beautiful thing. #sportstober
Also, I love the weather in October. The nights and mornings are cool and crisp and the afternoons warm up perfectly. Sometimes there is a bit of rain. We already have snow on the highest peaks. It's lovely. I wonder if we'll have snow in the valley by Halloween. I wouldn't love that action.
I'm sorry to say that the first couple of days of my favorite month have been sad. First, the violence in beautiful Catalunya surrounding the vote for Catalan independence was awful to see. Watching the police beat up peaceful would-be voters - even elderly people - was terrible. I'm not surprised that the government doesn't want Catalunya to be independent: Spain counts on the money it gets from Catalunya to subsidize the less wealthy areas of of the country. Still, I wonder what a divided Spain would be like. It will be interesting to watch.
Then last night the horrific attack in Las Vegas. There you are, enjoying music in an outdoor setting and suddenly bullets come raining down on you. That's messed up and terrifying. I've been watching my Twitter feed all day as news comes in and the dead and injured count goes up.
For me personally, things are a bit rocky at home, too. I don't care to get into details and I am hopeful that things will mellow out eventually. Time will tell.
And then, tonight, the news that Tom Petty has died. I'm so sad to hear about his passing. MT and I had always wanted to see him in concert, and now it can't happen. His music will go on. RIP Tom Petty.
Here's hoping October mellows out. At least the sports will be good.

I couldn't agree more with everything you've said here! Like the new layout, too!
Hard times in so many ways... I see both of you have changed the format of the blog. Maybe I will too at some point :)
