I had several things on my to-do list today, and I know my husband did, also, but we didn't really get too many things done. We did hang out together a bunch, though, so it was a good trade.
We started off our day with breakfast. We like to go to a greasy spoon diner type place called Virg's for breakfast on Sunday morning. I always get the same thing: two eggs over medium with bacon and a pancake. Hash browns are a given. MT switches it up; today he had an omelette and a pancake (again, hash browns are a given.)
After breakfast we came home and that's when we spent time doing what was most important to us. For me it was paying the bills. MT cleaned his bathroom. We both got done around the same time, so I invited him to come along with me to Red Butte Garden for a walk. I was surprised and happy when he agreed. The walk didn't go like I thought it would: we ended up on the side of the hill in the natural area on a nice little trail high above the garden. The temperature here was nice, in the low 60s, but really overcast, but no wind. It was a great day for a walk and I enjoyed being outside. The weather is supposed to take a turn toward more winter-y temperatures next week.
We made a quick trip to the grocery store and hit the Redbox for a couple of videos of MT's choosing, then we came home. I tried out a new recipe tonight: shrimp scampi mac and cheese. It was easy and really good, buttery and garlic-y and cheesy. Yum! MT even said it was really f'**ing good, so I know it really was because he is not prone to praise like that.
MT put up the Christmas tree this morning and brought up all the decorations from the basement. That is his Christmas task and mine is to put out all the decorations. While I'd been making dinner, MT put on one of the videos he got, The Dark Tower. I wasn't really interested in it so I didn't mind not being able to sit down and watch it. The other movie is called Gifted. I figured I would put out the decorations and trim the tree while that movie was on, but it kind of sucked me in. It's a tear-jerker too, so it's hard to be putting up jolly decorations when the cute little genius girl is being ripped away from her loving uncle Captain America. (Chris Evans plays the uncle.) I did put decorations on the tree, but I just finished up spreading around all the other decorations.
I'm pretty sure I tell this story every year, and here is this year's telling. Since T was about four years old, he has given me a nutcracker every Christmas, so I have around 14 nutcrackers now. Some of the older ones are missing feet or a hat or something minor, but I love them all. I wish I had written the year I received them on the bottom of the stands, but I didn't think of it at the time. I put them all out and as I pulled each of them out of their tissue wrapping, I smiled and remembered the happiness I got out of unwrapping them on Christmas morning. They are so fun to have!
If you're wondering where T was during all of this, he was home, sleeping off his weekend of fun. He did join us for dinner - he was the one who asked me to make the dish. He really liked it too and told me I could put in the rotation.
Yeah...so now it's 11:00 and I have to go to work tomorrow and I thought I would be in bed earlier, but things happen and that's how it goes. I did not accomplish everything on my to-do list, but it was a pretty dang good day anyway.
