#1982 Foo Fighters, The Last Jedi and a trip to California

1. The Foo Fighters put on a hell of a show. On Tuesday night MT and I finally got to see the Foo Fighters in concert. I say finally because they are a band we have wanted to see, but for whatever reason, we missed them on their last time in town. Let me tell ya...it was worth the wait. They played for three solid hours: they came on minutes before 9PM and ended right around midnight. This band has so much music, it blows my mind. They have been around for over 20 years, so there has been plenty of time to generate the tunes. Dave Grohl is a musical genius and he is entertaining as hell. I'm not usually one for long drawn-out jams, but he was so engaging with the audience and with his bandmates that it felt like he was playing with us. He'd make faces and wave his arms. He was constantly running the length of the stage and whipping his awesome hair all around. And that scream. He's a master. The other guys in the band are also super talented and I especially love the drummer, Taylor Hawkins, on whom I have had a crush for many years.

It's probably a good thing that the SLC show was the Foo Fighters' final show of the year. I think that MT and I would have happily dropped out to follow the band around. We has a lot of fun even though we were slightly deaf and bone-tired the next day. We may be getting too old to stay up late on a school night. It was totally worth it, though!

Check out this review from the Salt Lake Tribune. The writer did a great job on the story.

2. I am ready for The Last Jedi. Tomorrow morning Lizzie and I will be going to see the latest edition of the Star Wars saga, The Last Jedi. I'm extra excited about it. I really liked The Force Awakens. The new characters of Rey, Poe, Finn and Kylo Ren are wonderful. In preparation, I re-watched The Force Awakens tonight so all of the story is fresh in my head. YAY!

3. A few days out of this inversion will be great for a bunch of reasons. As mentioned in the second thing (above), I will be hanging out with my sister tomorrow in her town, San Diego. My mom's birthday is Sunday, so Lizzie and I will drive up to her house to spend a couple of days there also. My dad is still in the hospital, but we anticipate that he will be moved from ICU tomorrow, which is good news. Of course we will spend some time with him as well.

The weather here in SLC has been very cold and the air is very dirty. We are going through our first big inversion of the season. The cold air gets trapped here in the valley and nothing gets out, so all the smog and yuckiness lays over everything. It is foggy in the mornings and it never really clears up. Today we did have some sunshine, but the air was still grimy. Looks like this most of the time.

Not my photo. Found it on the internet.
I am looking forward to the cleaner air and warmer temperatures of Southern California. I'm looking forward to seeing my mom and dad and of course my sister. I need a little space and time to process the situation with T.

It is likely that I won't be writing during this mini-vacation, so I hope that you'll check back on the 20th when I'll post again for sure.

Happy weekend, y'all.
