I learned something today.
You know Americans always talk about "Cabo" as in, "Yeah man! We're going to Cabo!" I'm pretty sure they mean Cabo San Lucas.
When we were in Mazatlan, I heard people talking about "Los Cabos".
I thought Los Cabos and Cabo San Lucas were two different places, but technically, they are not. The town of Cabo San Lucas and the town of San Jose del Cabo form the municipality of Los Cabos. The municipality is pretty much directly across the Sea of Cortez from Mazatlan.
We stopped at Cabo on a cruise about nine years ago. It seemed like a nice place, but I would rather hit the Caribbean side of Mexico. ;)
