#2206 weekend wrap-up

Summer Saturdays are always busy. I started at the 8 AM WW meeting. I was down a bit over a pound, so I was happy about that. I came home for breakfast and cleaned the kitchen, then was off to get a hair cut. It was really just a trim since I am letting it grow. It felt good to get the dried ends cut and just freshened up a bit.

Next stop was Red Butte Garden. I haven't recorded blooms since May 11. I missed a lot of the really beautiful spring flowers like the wisteria, lilacs and peonies, but some of those flowers are still blooming a little. It was really cloudy and windy. It even sprinkled a little. I thought I was going to get drenched, but the weather passed by quickly, the sun came out and it was a beautiful afternoon. I hung out in the courtyard and talked to a nice lady from Florida who decided to buy a little bougainvillea plant (a leftover from the plant sale) and pack it in her suitcase to take back home. Why? Because it had variegated leaves and the flower was a pretty dark red color. Hope the plant survives the trip! I also chatted with a nice couple from England who were on a tour of the American West. They had been to the Grand Canyon and were making their way north to Yellowstone. Red Butte Garden is a stop on this tour. People can go to the Natural History Museum or to the Garden. I met lots of folks from all over last year because of this tour.

For our birthdays this year, MT and I decided to buy each other trees to plant in our backyard. When I got home on Saturday afternoon, we walked across the street to the greenhouse. Yes, we live across the street from a greenhouse. I'd never been there. It's pretty rustic, but the owners, Tamara and Lawrence, are really nice and I enjoyed chatting with them. Tamara might have offered me a job to be the greenhouse manager (?) which would be awesome and a super easy commute, but I don't think they can afford me. lol

We ended up buying three trees and five flowering bushes. I love them all! I really wanted an Imperial Honeylocust tree and they just happened to have one small specimen that may not be in the best shape, but I bought it anyway. MT chose a sweet little Norway maple with great big leaves and a  crooked little trunk. We also bought a quaking aspen to put with the other aspen that we have in the front yard. The bushes are all bridal veil spirea. I've seen a few specimens of this bush at Red Butte Garden and they are glorious. We planted all eight trees and bushes today. I can see the locust tree from the kitchen window when I wash dishes and the maple from where I like to sit on the couch. I'm so excited to have them! Best birthday present I think we could have given each other (although MT says the best gift was last year when I put a stereo in his truck.)

A silly thing happened during the tree planting. MT was doing all the digging and I was monitoring the watering of the newly planted bushes. I was sitting in a plastic chair and I leaned over to move the hose. The chair was on a bit of an incline and when I leaned over, the chair toppled over, spilling me right out of it. I did a full body rotation, seeing sky and then ending up face down on the grass. Thankfully I didn't roll into the newly planted spirea. It would have been no match for me. How embarrassing! MT was laughing his ass off and every time he looked at me throughout the day, he giggled and reminded me I had fallen out of a chair and rolled. I'm fine, by the way. Just surprised that it happened and a little embarrassed that I'm too lazy to get up to move the hose. I didn't make that mistake again!

Tonight we watched game two of the NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors are playing the Toronto Raptors. I guess I don't especially care who wins. It's just background noise while I read, to be honest. We both look up to check the score when we hear the announcers get excited or a cheer from the crowd, but it's not the same as watching the Jazz play.

Now it's Sunday night. Time for bed. I hope you had a great weekend!
