#2313 an epiphany

On Friday night MT and T went to see the film Uncut Gems. I declined because I didn't know if I felt up to two hours of a movie that was described to me as "anxiety inducing." My feelings were pretty tender that day, and I preferred to stay home and putter and watch one of my favorite movies, You've Got Mail.

As I was watching and falling in love with Kathleen (Meg Ryan) and Joe (Tom Hanks) all over again, I was admiring Kathleen's clothes. She looked so put together. All.The.Time.  Even her pajamas are cute. There she is reading at Starbucks wearing a white button down shirt. Look at her at that dinner party wearing a simple black turtleneck and a skirt. She's having tea with Birdie and she's not wearing jeans and sweatshirt. She's never in jeans and a t-shirt.

That's when it hit me: my life is lived in jeans and t-shirt. Except when I go to work, and let's face it, even then sometimes, I am always in jeans and t-shirt. It's my default setting. Sure, I'll throw a sweatshirt on, or if I'm really dressing up, a sweater, over that t-shirt in the winter. Not only is it a t-shirt, it's a t-shirt with words and/or pictures on it.

I counted and I have like three dozen t-shirts with words and/or pictures on them. Some I have deemed appropriate to wear out and about. Some are only for wearing at home. Still others are just for sleeping.

What is the matter with me?!?

I have adopted my husband's style. When I was telling him about this discovery this morning, he replied, "Well, that's what I wear."

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

I was today years old when I realized I am a lazy dresser.

When we were in Spain, Lizzie and I often commented on how the women looked so put together. Not one of those women I commented on were wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

It's not that I'm going to immediately replace all of my t-shirts with words and/or pictures, but I am going to be more aware of what I buy and what I wear. I can do better. I love MT but I don't want to dress like him!

Yesterday I happened to be over in Jordan Landing. I had my eyebrows tamed and I went to Barnes and Noble too. I had a bit of extra time, so I went to Old Navy since it's close to Barnes and Noble. I bought a sweater and a couple of pairs of shoes.

The change will be gradual, but I am committed to putting myself together a bit better.

Check with me in a few months to see how I'm doing or if I just stayed lazy.
