#2357 wonderful Wednesday: first bike ride of the year

The weather today was the nicest we have had all year. The temperature was in the upper 60s with a light breeze. The sun was shining and the sky was blue. When MT and I saw the forecast for today, we made a plan to take a bike ride after work, just a quick one, our first of the year. He got home just before 5:00 as I was packing up my work stuff. (A note: I put my work stuff away in my bag every evening when I shut down my computer. I don't want to leave it out and set up. I like to start fresh every day to signal the start of the work day and clean it all up at night to finish the workday.)

MT loaded the bikes in the truck while I finished putting stuff away, then we headed over to Saltair, which is about 10 miles from our house. It sits right on the edge of the Great Salt Lake. Normally it is a concert venue. Now it is just sitting there quietly. The parking lot is locked, but there were many cars parked outside along the fence. You can get past the gate and walk out onto the beach all the way to the water and there were lots of people doing that. There is quite a lot of space; I didn't see any people near each other.

We rode from Saltair to the Marina which is a mile or two. We like to look at the boats for a minute and it's a nice little warm-up before the real ride. There is a frontage road along I-80 that is flat and doesn't usually have a lot of traffic. Since it is so close to our house, we have enjoyed going there for short rides. We were not burning up the road on this ride. We just pedaled steadily until we were ready to turn around. Actually, we had a time-frame because we wanted to get home to watch our favorite show, Survivor. I think we both felt good about the ride. It got the blood flowing and got us out into the sunshine and fresh air.

Looks like the forecast for Friday and Saturday will be favorable riding days, too. YAY!
