#2356 musical Monday: Lovely Day

Bill Withers passed away last week from cardiovascular illness.  He was 81.

Withers had a beautiful voice and there are a few of his songs that are timeless and wonderful, like "Lean on Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine". Have you seen the movie Notting Hill? Of course you have. One of my favorite passing-of-time sequences in any movie ever is in that movie and the song that is playing is "Ain't No Sunshine." Check it out:

My favorite Bill Withers song, though, is without a doubt, "Lovely Day." It's just so upbeat, danceable and glorious. When my nephew John got married last summer, "Lovely Day" was the song they played as they and their attendants danced down the aisle. They invited everyone who was gathered to dance, too, and I didn't need to be told twice. I was dancing my feet off. John has mentioned to me several times that he knew everything would be fine when he saw me out there dancing merrily to his wedding music.

Take a minute to celebrate the good things that are happening - and there are good things happening - with Bill Withers singing "Lovely Day".

RIP Bill.
