If this was a normal year, I would be knee deep in live music. I would have volunteered at probably at least ten shows at Red Butte Garden by now. I would have paid to see at least a half dozen shows at other venues, too. Alas, it is not a normal year and live music can really only be seen on a screen.
From volunteering at the concerts at Red Butte Garden, I have been privileged to see a lot of artists that I probably would have skipped over if I was paying to get into the show. One artist that we have paid to see a few times is Gary Clark Jr. I don't even remember how the guy got on my radar, but I am so glad he did. I think we've seen him three times at RBG and we were looking forward to seeing him with the Black Keys this summer at USANA Amphitheater. That show was cancelled and not rescheduled. (Sad face. It was a show that both MT and I were really looking forward to seeing.)
If you don't know Gary Clark Jr.'s music, I would say it is a mix of blues and rock and R&B. I confess that I am not a huge fan of the guitar jam, unless Gary is playing. I could listen to him play all night. He has a distinctive voice and great style.
Last year when we saw him at RBG, he crushed a cover of The Beatles classic "Come Together." I found this video of Gary performing the song on The Howard Stern Show. So take five minutes, if you will, and enjoy the musical stylings of Gary Clark Jr. He rocks.
