#2425 musical Monday: Bob Marley

The very first Bob Marley song I ever heard was "Could You Be Loved". I think I was around 15 years old. Mom, Lizzie, and I were visiting our family in Spain. One afternoon the three of us walked over to a place called MagicPark. It was a super fun place that had bumper cars and arcade games and there was a disco below ground. Remember, this was the '80s, so it might not sound that cool to you now, but to my 15 year old self, it was dope as hell.

In the afternoons there were more kids around, people my age and younger. I loved to ride in the bumper cars. The music played really loud and it was a blast to bash the cars into other people's cars. It was even more fun at night because it was dark but they had disco lights flashing, but I didn't get to go over very often at night.

Anyway, one particular afternoon at MagicPark really shaped my musical passions. On that one awesome day, I first heard The Police AND Bob Marley. I became hooked on the reggae, friends. To this day, Bob Marley's album Legend is a no-fail, sing every word to every song jam that always makes me happy. "Could You Be Loved" in particular, still brings me great joy.

Bob Marley died shortly before I discovered his music, so of course I never had the chance to see him in concert. Thanks to YouTube, though, we can all watch Bob. Feel free to nod your head and wriggle your hips and enjoy this awesome song.

Happy Monday!
