#2506 tonight I feel...

Tonight I feel disappointed and also excited  Both of those things can be true at the same time, you know. Both of these feelings stem from the same thing.

I've been planning on a trip to France since late 2019. I was supposed to go in September 2020, but then The Virus came along and caused a global pandemic, so the trip was postponed to May of this year. Since May wasn't looking favorable, the trip was postponed again to October of this year. I learned today that the trip to France has been scrapped.

I was really looking forward to going to France. Lizzie and I were going to spend a week in the south of France, on the Riviera in Nice. We were going to travel around some little towns and do art and soak it all up. My sister and I then planned to spend a couple of days in Paris, because, why wouldn't you? I've been taking French lessons through Babbel for awhile now. My lessons have become more sporadic as the trip keeps getting pushed back, but I know a lot more than I did when I started. I was doing research on the area. I follow French stuff on IG. I was into it!

It's not really true to say the trip was scrapped. It's actually just been changed to another destination. The new destination is why I'm excited. It's a place I've never been, but always thought looked beautiful and amazing. The new destination is Crete!

I'm pretty sure it will be amazing. There will be wine and olive oil tasting. There will be a tour of the botanical garden. There will be walking along the sea wall to a lighthouse. There are beaches. There are sidewalk cafes along the waterfront. It's Greece, for crying out loud. There's a plethora of history there. I'm quite sure I can work myself into a frenzy about it. At the same time, I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high because The Virus lingers and who really knows what is going to happen.

Still, now I am planning on going to Crete in October. I don't think I will spend a lot of time learning Greek, but I will definitely be doing some research and getting the lay of the land. I like Greek food. I like warm temperatures and the sea. The tour operator says the weather in Crete in October is wonderful and there's the added bonus of smaller amounts of tourists because the season is over. I'm into it!

I'd still like to go to France someday. MT has a strong desire to see Normandy and Mont Saint-Michel. I want to see Paris. I'd like to see Provence, and I'd love to see the beaches of the French Riviera. C'est la vie. As of now, I'm preparing for Crete!
