You may not know this about me, but I am in absolute and total awe of one Lin-Manuel Miranda.
He is a phenomenal, amazing talent. He is one O away from being a MacPEGOT. He would be the first MacPEGOT ever. What is a MacPEGOT? Let me break it down via Bustle.com:
- “Mac" is for MacArthur Fellow: Miranda's musical In The Heights made him a MacArthur Fellow in 2015.
- "P" is for Pulitzer Prize: Hamilton earned a Pulitzer Prize in 2016.
- "E" is for Emmy: Miranda won a Primetime Emmy in 2014 for composing the music to the televised 67th Tony Awards.
- "G" is for Grammy: Miranda has two Grammys, the first in 2008 for In The Heights and the other for Hamilton.
- "O" is for Oscar: Miranda still needs to win Best Original Song for "How Far I'll Go." **
- "T" is for Tony: Because Miranda and Hamilton won big at the 2016 Tonys.
- ** “How Far I’ll Go” is from Moana. That song did NOT win the Oscar that year. He has another chance with the song “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto.
By the way, if you haven’t seen Encanto, you’re missing out. The colors, the story, the music, the amazing animated hair…it’s all very wonderful.
The song “Dos Oruguitas” is sung in Spanish. Here’s what you need to know: dos oruguitas means two caterpillars. I think we can agree that although caterpillar is a cute word in English, it’s freaking beautiful in Spanish. Same with butterfly. It’s fine in English, but the Spanish word, mariposa, is lovely.
Here is the video of the song “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto. It tells the story of Abuela and her love, Pedro. Even if you don’t understand the words, you will certainly understand the feelings the music gives you and the story the animation shows you.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
