I'm celebrating my birthday weekend! My birthday is tomorrow, but I did fun things I like today, and I'll do some more fun things I like tomorrow, too.
MT and the dogs let me sleep in until 8:00 this morning, which felt great and kind of decadent. I went to the gym, mostly because I have this membership and I haven't been using it, and secondly, because my body felt like it wanted to get a little sweaty without a lot of effort. I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes, listening to music and reading. It was pretty great, actually.
The next big thing was that I got my hairs cut. I've been wanting to make a change, and my hair stylist Lanna did a great job of giving me exactly what I wanted. She cut off a few inches of hair, so now it's kind of chin-length bob. It feels so fresh! When I shake my head, my hair actually swings. The ends that were chopped off were mostly darker red, so now my hair overall is more strawberry because of the white old lady hairs that are taking over my head.
This afternoon I went to Red Butte Garden to record blooms. It was a nice day, slightly overcast with temps in the low 80s. There are lots and lots of things blooming up there now! It took me quite awhile to walk through the Children's Garden (CG) and record the blooms. I also walked through the Water Conservation Garden (WCG) because a lot of plants in the CG also are in the WCG and have signs. The WCG is gorgeous right now. Many cactuses are blooming, and the whole garden is just filling in so beautifully. I remember when it first opened, all the plants and trees were so little. It is amazing how quickly all the plants and trees have grown and are filling up the space.
The wisteria is still blooming, too. It smells so good and looks so incredible. The lilacs are also blooming. So much green!!
Fun side story: When we were in Florence, the wisteria was blooming, maybe up near the Villa Medici (?). Anyway, several people on the bus wanted to know what those beautiful purple flowers were as we drove by (we didn't get to stop). Our guide, Lunella, thought maybe they were lilacs. I said they were wisteria, but I don't think she heard me. Her friend, another guide who was catching a ride back to Livorno, knew the flower, or heard me, and told Lunella the flower was wisteria. Lunella then repeated the word several times and announced it to the other passengers. I was sitting near enough to her that I could hear her talking to her friend. Every once in awhile, she would toss in the word "wisteria", I think so she would remember it. The repetition made me chuckle.
Tonight, MT and I went to dinner at Copper Creek Pub. It's one of our favorite local places. Their bacon bleu cheese burger is dang tasty, and I washed down with a cold beer. What a treat! We were both feeling full after dinner, so we took the dogs for a long walk in the neighborhood a block over to the east from us. There are a bunch of new houses over there that are fun to look at, and there are lots of new smells for the girls, too.
Tomorrow, my plans include taking the doggos to the dog park for a nice run. I hope that MT and I can go for a little bike ride, too, if the weather is good. We didn't ride at all last summer; in fact, we haven't gone for a ride since we got Mac two years ago. Our last ride was in April 2020. I don't know why. For dinner tomorrow, the three of us are going to an Italian restaurant called Carmine's. I'm sure we will all watch the basketball game at home after dinner.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
