#2730 musical Monday: Jack Harlow

When I was a teenager, I used to love buying albums, then cassettes, then CDs. I would listen to the whole album, every track. Remember doing that? Listening to music is different now, isn’t it, with streaming being the way many of us listen to music nowadays.

In our family, we stream with Apple Music. I really like it because there is such a tremendous variety of music available. Today, for example, I listened to a curated playlist on Apple Music called “Coding”. It was lo-fi electronic music for concentration. Later, after work, I was cleaning my kitchen and I listened to a playlist called “Cleaning the House” that had familiar music I could sing along with or dance around to.

I also really like Apple Music for learning about artists I don’t know, like some of the artists that come to play at Red Butte Garden. I’d never heard of KALEO,  but thanks to my streaming service, I was able to listen to their music before the show and become a little familiar with their sound. I like to create my own playlist of music I hear at the Garden in the summer. I choose one or two songs from each artist I see, then I have a playlist of summer memories. It’s fun!

Another thing I can do with Apple Music is listen to whole albums, just like when I was a teenager, but without physically owning the vinyl or CD. T listens to albums straight through all the time, but I haven’t as much. Last month, though, I think I listened to five or six albums. There was new music out from the Black Keys, Jack Harlow, Harry Styles, Sheryl Crow (her album is a compilation of all her hits; I guess there is a documentary about her?), and Kendrick Lamar. Post Malone came out with a new album last Friday that I listened to. I think I’m missing some artists that I listened to, but you get what I mean.

For today’s musical selection, I’m going to share a video by Jack Harlow. He’s a young rapper from Kentucky who is T’s age (Jack is actually just six days older than T) and who bears a resemblance to T’s friend Spudz. This song has a sample of Fergie’s “Glamorous”. I like Jack’s voice and flow, and the video is kinda fun, too. Enjoy!
