#2744 musical Monday: Wild Child

Tonight MT and I will go to our second concert in three days; we will be seeing The Black Keys at USANA Amphitheater. I'm excited for the show, because I like this band's music. I don't love the venue, plus it's bloody hot today, so that's kind of a downer.

A quick word about the show we saw on Saturday at Sundance - this Bluebird Cafe show was probably my least favorite of all the Bluebird Cafe shows we have seen at Sundance. Usually I like at least two of the three performers, but I only liked one artist on Saturday. The other two were meh for me. The woman, Jordan something, had a breathy voice, and I didn't care for her songs. They were all downers. She said she tried to write songs for other artists, but she was always disappointed with how they turned out, so she decided to do her own songs.

The other guy is apparently in the Songwriter Hall of Fame, but he seemed to take himself so seriously that I just couldn't enjoy his "banter" or the songs. Also, I hadn't heard of any of his songs. Granted, I'm not a big country music fan, so although I knew the people he said had recorded the songs, I didn't know the songs themselves.

The guy I did like was funny, told good stories that I could relate to, and looked and sounded like he was having the best time ever. His songs, of which I only recognized one, were all fun and catchy. I also recognized the names of the artists he said had recorded those songs.

Another thing I wanted to mention about the Sundance venue is that we always park in the big parking lot or higher on the mountain, if we can, then hike up then down into the amphitheater. In past years, there has been a longer, more windy trail that is a little easier for people who aren't in very good shape, like me. Now, the traversing trail is closed and there is just one way up and down on a trail that is quite steep. I was a little scared going down - I may have a touch of vertigo and downhill things always look terribly steep to me - and I was totally winded coming back up. The woman at the exit did say it was a "strenuous" 15 - 20 minute hike up to the top. She wasn't joking. I'm glad we only have tickets for one more show, in August, rather than all four or six shows they have this year. We won't take the shuttle. MT hates to wait for stuff like that when we are "perfectly capable" of walking. I don't know about the perfectly part, but yes, capable, as long as we stop a time or two (or three) on the way back up.

Tonight's show, The Black Keys, is straight-up rock and roll. Their new album, Dropout Boogie, is really good. It's going to be a fun show, I think.

I'm was going to post the official video for the song "Wild Child", but I changed my mind. I just watched it and couldn't even focus on the music because the images are so over-the-top. Instead, here are the Black Keys performing the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Enjoy!
