talks with T

MT has been doing some work on the rental property for the past couple of weeks, so I've been spending quality time with my boy T. He's 9 but sometimes acts much older. Some of the things he says, the way he phrases things, makes me shake my head. He talks older than he is - does that make sense? I think it's because he reads a lot so his vocabulary and the way he speaks seems advanced. Maybe all 9 year olds talk like he does. I don't know for sure though.

Last night we were watching the Cubs game. I wanted him to get his jammies on and go to bed, but he wanted to talk. I know it was just a ploy to stay up later, but since I worry that if I say no to a request like that now he won't even ask when he gets older, I told him it would be ok if he came back downstairs to talk after his jammies were on. We did talk. We talked a little about baseball, what he was doing at school, about books and lots of different things. He told me that he would like me to take him to the playground this weekend so he could show me his Spiderman moves on the monkey bars. He told me that there is a girl in his class who said that she "liked" him.

Tonight we worked on a story that he wrote for his class. He wanted to do it on the computer, so I typed it for him. We'd be here all night if he was typing a 2 page story! It was a pretty fun exercise for me to listen to the way he crafted his tale. I helped him to fill out the story a little bit by prompting him to give some details about the characters and the situation. I think he liked it, too.

Then we bought tickets to see High School Musical on Ice. Wow, the things we do for our kids, right Mom?! We're going on opening night, November 15. We will have a good time. "It'll be like a date!" he said. Awwww...a date with my son. Is there anything better for a mom?

Here's a soccer update: T scored 3 goals in practice today. This is highly unusual behavior. Usually he doesn't put himself out there to score a goal. I think the deal I made him has something to do with the change. I told him I would pay him $5 for each goal he scored in practice and in games. He has a habit of falling down a lot, just being silly, so each time he falls he owes me a quarter. He fell down 10 times that I saw today, so he'll get $13.50 for today. Dang! What was I thinking? I really didn't expect him to score 3 goals in practice. It was like watching a different kid. I should have tried this a year or so ago. Good thing we only have 4 more games!
