#1439 family movie night: Mad Max Fury Road

When the very first previews of Mad Max Fury Road came out, MT was all atwitter about going to see it. He contemplated flying to Tucson so he could see it with his brother Kevin because they both loved the original Road Warrior movie so much. (He only decided against the trip to Arizona because we are so close to going to Hawaii and didn't have the extra cash.) MT had already resigned himself to seeing the latest Mad Max movie by himself because he didn't think I would even consider going with him. The thing is that I had already thought about going with him to see the movie, not because I was really into it, but because I'm nice that way. Then T said that he would come with us to see it, so wow! Family movie night!

The movie is basically 120 minutes of straight up action with very little dialogue - sort of like the original Road Warrior. I actually think the movie should have been called Mad Max Furiosa Road because so much of the plot centered around Furiosa (Charlize Theron). What was surprising is that although there are few women in the film, they play a central and significant role. They were all strong women who held their own and were heroic.

Tom Hardy played Max. I think he's pretty hot.  When he spoke, though, all I could think of was Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. Plus, for a good portion of the movie, maybe even the first hour, he has on a face thing that is sort of like Bane's.  Of course, he didn't really speak that much and he eventually gets rid of the face thing, and then he looks pretty damn good. And he's manly.



Nicholar Hoult is also in the movie. He's so cute, but he doesn't get to be cute in many of his movies. In this movie, he's very white and scarred. He's good though.

Bottom line: MT and T loved it. I thought it was fine. I wasn't bored or annoyed by it. It isn't a movie I would usually choose, but I was happy to go with the boys to see it.

Fun/cute moment: as we were leaving the theater, there were little movie posters. T grabbed one. MT was behind us and we waited for him. He had stopped to pick up a poster, too, and was grinning like a little kid.
