#1701 throwback Thursday: happy birthday LA!

September 2011

This is my favorite photo - and one of very few photos - that I have with my best friend LaDonna. Today is her birthday, so it just seemed right to post of photo of us together. We've been friends since 1989 when we were both working at the newspaper office in Pocatello. Poky is a small town and there were a lot of random things that we had in common. For example, her husband worked with my brother-in-law. Her cousin was married to my sister-in-law's sister. Her husband knew my boyfriend from rock climbing. On top of that, we just clicked. We got each other. Do you know how fun and fantastic it is to see your best friend at work every day? We'd hang out at work all day, then we'd go home and immediately call each other. We would go over to each others houses often.  We didn't have a lot of money back then, so we would pool our money to buy a pizza and watch a video at one or the others house. When MT and Rob (her husband) went climbing or skiing, the two of us would hang out. When she had her son, I felt like an honorary auntie. We were tight and it was great.

When we moved to Salt Lake, LA and I kept in touch. It wasn't the same, of course. There were often long stretches that we didn't talk or see each other much - mostly my fault. But we hung in there and I think our friendship is strong and good. When we see each other or talk on the phone, it's like we just pick up the conversation like no time has passed. It's amazing to have a friend like this! I feel extremely lucky that she puts up with my potty mouth and the physical distance between us.

Happy birthday LA! I love you and I miss you! I hope to see you soon!!

PS - in the photo, we didn't even plan to have the same shirt on. We each dressed on our own and loved it when we saw we had matching shirts!

She is a good friend. When I would come to see you in Poky I enjoyed going to lunch with you two.
