#2430 three things: Mac, routines, and books

 1. This dog. Mac is unlike any dog I have ever had. For one thing, she is vocal. She doesn't bark when we come into the house or when she sees other dogs, for the most part. She barks at me a lot though. It's a high pitched, hey-pay-attention-to-me noise. It happens most often when I am sitting down to eat dinner. I can have been playing with her for an hour, then she'll hang out while I fix the food, and the minute I sit down WOOF WOOF WOOF. She is constantly by me, which is fine, but it also means I am the one who has to deal with her shenanigans, and there are plenty of shenanigans. Mostly I like her just fine. I admit there are times when I wonder what the hell I got myself into.

2. Changing routines. Now that it is dark in the morning and gets darker earlier in the eveing, I find that my routines have to change, too. I take Mac out for a quick walk in the morning. If I'm working in the office, it means that we have to go when it's still kind of dark. We just stay in the neighborhood and it's nice because it's quiet and peaceful. It's not a long walk, but it's what I have time for and gets her moving a little before she's inside all day. In the evening I like to take her for a longer walk, and we'd go for a walk around 8:00. Now the sun sets just after 8, so time to change it up. I think I'll take her out when I get home from work and then come home and fix dinner. I'll let you know how that works out.

3. So many books. I put books on hold at the library, and I will be number 70 out of 72 in the queue. I put books on hold at different times, but I'll be danged if they don't always come in all at the same time. Case in point: last week I picked up three books. I read one of them (it was less than 200 pages, so it went quick), but I doubt I'll get to the other two. I have a book that my sister highly recommended that I've been reading. It's beautifully written and I'm sure will be compelling in the coming pages, but it's a slow starter. I've thought about giving up on it, but Lizzie gave it five stars on Goodreads and she doesn't do that very often. I think I'm going to have to take the other books back, unread, and try to get them another time because right now they are sitting in the pile, feeling neglected.

I just looked at my hold list. I have eight items reserved, and I am in first position on four of them. I suspended them for a few weeks to give myself time to finish the book I've got. Why can't I just read one or two books at a time like a normal person? Right now I've got three books going: one on my Kindle that I read before I go to sleep, the five-star book, and the book club book. Good thing there is a long weekend coming. Laying around reading and napping sounds grand. #nerdproblems
